I really appreciate the opportunity to spend time with the new teachers during their New Teacher's Institute days. Their previous experiences with school librarians vary widely, so it is important to let them know how important collaboration is at SCSD. Examples are always good, so I used several partnerships from last year to illustrate the range of interactions, technology and learning. I am hoping that these new teachers will be looking for opportunities to work together this year.
I also helped Matt Townsley present a brief presentation on Personal Learning Networks and how they can positively affect your practice. We both agreed that of all the platforms, Twitter has had the biggest impact on how we make connections and learn.
On Thursday, our whole team will be back together, preparing the media centers for staff and students. I love our team and appreciate them so much. Tonight we had some social, fun time together to ease into the school year. I made dinner for them and gave them each a Tagxedo portrait with text copied from their evaluations.
Thanks to these smart, funny and caring ladies, Media Services is going to have a fabulous year!
