First Friday of the first week of the 2012-13 school year. The day started with a welcome breakfast for new students. Teachers and veteran students invited. SCSD Food Services catered (spread on the table in the background).
Two sessions with Language Arts 7 to help them select books for their "Book Bingo" assignment. I love Mr Cocking's reading list, which is full of Iowa Teen Award nominees and great series. Here is a link to his excellent class website.
During one class I noticed a student copy of SCARS by Cheryl Rainfield. I snapped a photo of it and directed a message to the author, who I follow on Twitter. She responded within minutes. It was such a lovely moment to share with the student. Authors are real people!
The SHS Media Center was the location for our annual Club Rush, designed to help students learn about the wide range of extracurricular activities available to them. The entire freshman class filled the room.
All high school and middle school students and staff gathered at the new stadium at the end of the day for a pep rally.
