Graduation ceremonies always get to me, but this one was especially poignant, as my daughter graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University. It was a big day in Fayette, with three back to back gatherings of family, friends, teachers and staff.

Most of the graduates at the 1 pm event were non-traditional students and you could feel the pride of their loved ones as the names were read out one by one. Gowns were worn by all ages, races and nationalities and you know the paths they took were not necessarily easy. Sacrifice was probably involved - missed ballgames, tightened budgets and late nights at the computer or at the college's extension center.

I am so proud of my daughter. She started high school at Solon my first year as Media Specialist. but  didn't go from Point A to B after graduating. When she did decide that she did need that post-secondary degree to get ahead, she gave it 100%. It was a day to celebrate!

Congratulations to Sarah Beth!
