7-18-13

Eleven days mostly unplugged and mostly reading. A dream vacation for this librarian.

THE SON and AND THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED were family sagas, one about Texas and the other about Afghanistan.

IN DARKNESS and MOUNTAINS BEYOND MOUNTAINS were both about Haiti.

THE PREGNANCY PROJECT and ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE had connections to Hispanic culture.

ZENN SCARLETT and THE HOLLOW MEN had connections to regional authors. Christian Schoon is from Iowa (actually from Solon) and Amanda Hocking is from Minnesota. Both books are YA, one about exovets (veteranarians for extraterrestrial animals) and the other about zombies.

A LONG WALK TO WATER, PLUNKED and TOUCH BLUE  are all Iowa Children's Choice Award nominees.

And can I make a connection between BOSSYPANTS and HATTIE EVER AFTER? Well, Tina Fey and Hattie both have self-deprecating humor, but I was laughing out loud throughout most of BOSSYPANTS.

And that leaves THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE, which will stand alone.
