7-28-14

During my 11 years at the high school, I have seen a steady decline in the use of our nonfiction books. With the exception of collections developed to support specific assignments, the only nonfiction books that get much activity are those that are read for entertainment. Examples would be FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY, THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS and UNBROKEN.

Cookbooks, books about animals, gardening, and individual countries are out of date, unattractive and go untouched.

Most of these books have not been checked out in the last 6 years.

Cleaning out the clutter will allow us to freshen up the look of the library.

I'm now in the process of genrefying the fiction collection, as we have done at SMS and Lakeview.
